About Me

Steve Potgieter Durban based Photographer

 Steve Potgieter, Durban based photographer.

I was blessed to be able to travel and put foot on a large part of our planet. During my travels, I always had a camera of some sort with me. In time my cameras and I became inseparable.

At first, I would take photos of the locations I was at but soon I started travelling to destinations specifically to go take pictures.  I think this is where my love for photography started.

For some years I lived out of a backpack and I did not have much space for personal belongings but I always made room for my cameras. I lugged camera gear over 35 countries in a 5-year timespan. In fact, I still have some of the original lenses from my old Canon 35mm film camera. I can't even think to get rid of them, even if I don't have a use for them anymore.

So no, I did not go to school to be a photographer I learned on the move and by doing it for more than 25 years. School of life and a love for art was my education.

My favourite type of photography is portraits, I like using natural light but prefer to use lights. I like to use good functional gear and my gear might not always be the most expensive but I know how to use my gear.

I would consider myself a good photographer but I always want to learn and improve. I'll never stop being a student.
